Infusion Therapy for IBD: Remicade and Entyvio

Overview

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis can seriously affect a patient’s quality of life. For moderate to severe cases, infusion therapy with biologics can induce and maintain remission.

What Is Infusion Therapy?

Infusion therapy is when medications are given intravenously (directly into a vein). There are other, non-oral methods of delivering medicines that can be referred to as infusion, such as injections into the muscle. But for this purpose, treatment with biologics Remicade and Entyvio are delivered into the vein.

What Is A Biologic?

Biologics are genetically engineered proteins made from human genes that target sources of inflammation. Biologics have shown to be successful in treating autoimmune disorders with inflammation as a primary symptom, such as Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis.
